Ixia’s XG12 12-slot modular chassis is the test and measurement industry’s highest port density test system available for Ethernet. It is a flexible platform that delivers the most comprehensive solution for performance, functional, and conformance testing of network equipment and network applications. Operating in conjunction with Ixia’s industry-leading test applications and automation APIs, the XG12 chassis provides the foundation for high scale and performance, layer 1-7 test solutions.
The XG12 supports up to 384 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE), 192 1GE ports, 24 ports of 100GE Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) CFP MSA ports, 48 ports of 40GE HSE QSFP+ ports, 24 Packet over SONET (POS) ports, or 24 Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) ports.
The XG12 chassis has more total power and cooling compared to Ixia’s XM chassis series. The XG12 has a front-to-back airflow system to ensure that all of Ixia’s highest density load modules can operate efficiently. A true modular construction maximizes the XG12’s serviceability. Each major system component is self-contained and field replaceable. The fan, power supply, and processor components are designed to be readily installed and removed. All Ixia XM load modules are hot-swappable which ensures a highly flexible and multi-user testing environment. Both of Ixia’s load module form factors, the XM and Standard modules are supported in the XG12, providing a seamless integration with existing Ixia test systems.

Single platform: a single solution for executing a wide array of data, routing, and bridging protocol emulation; and signaling, voice, video, and application testing from layers 1-7
 Extensive interface support: Higher Speed Ethernet 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Dual PHY SFP Fiber and 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet, OC-3c/12c ATM, and OC-3c/12c/48c/192c packet over SONET (POS)
 Hot swap capability: load modules can be actively swapped in and out of the test bed without disrupting ongoing test using installed modules
 High performance: high speed backplane to support the high bandwidth requirements of large-scale application tests
 Highly serviceable:
o Modular Processor module; a self-contained, field replaceable unit running Windows 7 operating system for management and control of load modules, port configurations and statistics. Processor module has on-board 250GB SATA hard disk drive
o Modular Fan module; a self-contained, field replaceable unit
o Modular Power Supply module; a self-contained, field replaceable unit with three power supplies
 Daisy-chaining of Ixia chassis in a single large port count test bed with synchronization accuracy to within 80 nanoseconds. Supported chassis: XG12, XM12, XM2, 400T, X16
 GPS time synchronization using signal antenna with AFD1 or IRIG-B with AFD2 unit
 FUSION support: FUSION-enabled load modules and IxN2X® application support and compatibility.
